Mom. Dad. I want your advice
If you celebrate Easter, I hope you had a great day with your kids!
We somehow got it together and made the 8:30am service at our church.
The theme…
SURRENDER.
The meaning: Stop relying on your own will, your own ego, your own intelligence, and the need to control everything…
And SURRENDER it to God.
He will help make your path straight.
Whether you are Christian or not, the message was good and very in line with “Parenting Bumpers.”
As parents, we can get wrapped up in trying to figure everything out.
We carry the heaviness of everyday life stuff on top of the responsibilities of caring for other little humans.
How do you surrender when you’re trying to figure it out all yourself?
FAITH.
How do you have faith?
TRUST.
How do you build trust?
CONNECTION.
We want to guide our kid’s path to be straight too, but sometimes THEY JUST DON’T LISTEN!”
On my run this morning, I listened to a great interview with Dr. Daniel Amen.
If you don’t know who Dr. Amen is, he is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and neuropsychiatric.
His latest book is, Raising Mentally Strong Kids.
He talks about building a connection with your child, but DON’T try to solve ALL your kid’s problems. (Sounds kinda what God does with us)
He even mentioned being your child’s bumper too😉, which I gave myself some kudos since I wrote about that a few weeks ago.
SURRENDER to the fact that we cannot control all the outcomes.
But what you do control is your input and output.
What you choose to listen to and what you choose as your outward actions.
Shutting down the noise of what we see and hear on TV, news and social media.
So you can listen to and hear that inner voice and your heart is telling you.
Your action is to build upon your connection to your higher power and strengthen your connection with your kids.
Your connection with your kids happens when you remove the noise and stay present with them.
This daily action will ultimately build their trust in you.
When kids feel more connected and trust with their parents and their parents empower them in life, they are more confident in their ability to seek guidance from you when it’s needed.
Just like you’ve built your trust in God.
You can be that course correction when they need it most.
When you hear these words: “Mom. Dad. I want your advice”
You are really hearing: Connection. Trust. Truth. Faith. Positive action.
Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna get back to my Daniel Amen book😊
In your corner,
Greg
P.S. I’m excited for what the future holds. A part of that excitement is building a community of parents who want the resources and support to not only raise strong empowered kids, but also you want the support to be the standard that your kids will see.
